This exceptionally rare Disney corporate Christmas card just sold on eBay tonight. The art was created by Disney newspaper artist Floyd Gottfredson and is apparently the first known example of an illustration by him printed in color. The card dates from about 1930. Gottfredson started at the Studio in December 1929, and was eventually assigned to the newspaper strip department in April 1930, where he worked creating Mickey Mouse newspaper strips - both the daily and Sunday color strips. He worked on the daily until his retirement in October 1975. Oh, and by the way, there are only three examples of this card known to exist: one sold one recently for $1,725.00. The one that sold tonight went for $1,214.11. Enjoy this Christmas card. It’s stunning and it’s rare in the truest sense of the word.
